So today in class we took notes on some of the famous philosophers in Ancient Greece.
AS you know we learned a little about socrates and how he died because he was charged with impiety and the corruption of the youth of Athens. Well at the jury held against socrates one of his students attended his name was Plato. Plato was a student and follower of socrates. Plato wrote out socrates teachings and described his trial in apology which is like a explanation in Ancient Greece. He is the reason why we know more about socrates than Homer. The republic was socrates discussion of justice and the ideal state. This is one of the most influential books ever written in philosophical history. Aristotle was a student of Plato. He helped foster the idea of Athens as an intellectual destination. Aristotle founded his own school called the lyceum. It focused on cooperative research- building on knowledge gathered from all over the world. He had the dream of mankind knowledge easily accessed in one place (Google). He was even the tutor of Alexander the great who says Aristotle was one of the biggest influences on him.
