Rome

So today we started our unit onAncient Rome which to me seems like a continuation of Greece. We also took some notes.

  • The city of Rome was founded in 753 B.C.
  • Rome was built on several rolling hills at a curve on the tiber river
  • The earliest settler arrived on the peninsula between 1000-500 B.C.
  • There were three groups greeks, Etruscans and the latin's
  • 750-600 B.C. greeks constructed colonies along south Italy and Sicily , they became prosperous and commercially active
  • The Etruscans were from northern Italy and were skilled metal workers an engineers and were a strong influence on Roman culture and civilization
  • in 600 B.C. a Etruscan became king of Rome and made it into a city that covered 500 square miles
  • The most famous temple is the forum the heart of Roman political life
  • The last king of Rome was tarquin the proud a tyrant forced from power in 509 B.C the romans then said they would never have another king which lead to them developing a republic govt
  • republic is a form of govt in which the power rest with the citizens
This was as far as I got but there is a lot of more notes in the future.
